Across rural Uganda, families are living in poverty. When you are struggling to survive, education is not a priority. School fees are expensive, and so children are forced to drop out of school and earn a living. The vicious cycle continues.

Mama Savings and Loans Association

We're helping young powerless mothers start their own businesses through Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), so that they can break the cycle of poverty.
We are providing farmers and their families with the skills to grow, sell and store more food, to support their children's education. We're also supporting young powerless mothers with life-changing literacy and numeracy skills, as well as access to valuable health and nutrition services, so they can help their children not just survive but succeed. Help mums start their own businesses

In 2020, we started our Maama Savings and Loans Association as an answer for the suffering in many homes. Single powerless mothers have trouble providing food, medication, education, and other necessities for their families. Our aim was and still is to empower these mother to become self-supporting through small loans and business skills.

We gave our first business loan of $100 to a widow who started a small food cookery. She paid back the loan in monthly installments without interest over a period of three months. After this first loan, we were very encouraged and inspired to help other women. Our Maama Savings and Loans Association has been able to give seven mothers loans which has helped them to start small grocery stores, cookery points, fruit stalls, and piggery, goat and poultry farming.
